Treadmill for performance analysis

Physical fitness analysis mode for treadmill
Horse performance evaluation

The treadmill is increasingly used for assisting track training.  In Australia, Europe or other countries, treadmill applications for physical fitness analysis are expected to become popular.  As the burden on the legs is lighter and training load can be controlled properly,  the treadmill training  makes it  possible to use physical fitness analysis. It is possible to evaluate the physical performance of the horse in a stable manner by keeping the measurement conditions constant as in the performance analysis of the professional athlete.  Horsecall's "treadmill physical fitness analysis mode" (Horsecall Treadmill Trial) enables more precise condition checking.

Performance and condition analysis by treadmill

In Australia or Europe, treadmills are widely used as an support training of track exercise.  In recent years, efforts to analyze horse body condition using a treadmill are drawing attention.  In the case of a treadmill, because the riding is unnecessary, the weight burden on the legs is small, and since the speed can be controlled, there is a feature that allows exercise with a constant load.
In track-and-field sports, in addition to supplementary exercise outside the truck, it is widely used to acquire athletic performance data such as cardiopulmonary ability and endurance using a constant load condition of the treadmill.  Even in racehorses, this is new data science technology to grasp the ability and condition by treadmill.

Low burden on legs and constant exercise load.

The treadmill reduces the burden on the legs because there are no riders. Moreover, since the slope and the speed can be optimized precisely, there is an advantage that the the physical fitness measurement can be done in constant condition.
Once you set the fitness measurement condition such as walk 2min, trot 1min. gallop 2 min for example, data can be processed in a stable manner and therefore result becomes precise index to evaluate horse physical fitness condition.

Highly efficient tool to evalute racehorse condition in racing week or recovery status.

Even just a few days before the race day, horse condition can be measured without putting much burden over the horse.  Also vital data can be precisely collected under uniform training condition and recovery and fatigue condition can be evaluated more accurately.

Horsecall can evaluate the reserve physical capacity of the horse and the cardiopulmonary ability accurately.

Heart rate means heart beats in one minute. Comparing heart rate graphs of two horses running at a heart rate of 200 with a treadmill exercise, there is no big difference. However, the interval of heart beat differs each time. If the horse has affordable physical capacity , the heart rate interval variation is observed, and if the horse capacity if full, the heartbeat interval becomes more constant. (Heart beat interval reflects autonomic nerve activity).
Therefore it is effective to observe if horse has affordable physical capacity by analysing heart beat interval variation.

In the meantime, it is possible to evaluate cariopulmonary perforemance against exercise burden by analysing heart rate decreasing slope after post-exercise point.
Finally, seconds required to recover HBR 100 bpm indicate cardiopulmonary burden.

With analysis over 3 differenct factors, Horsecall indicates key factors for evaluating horse physical performance and condition.  HBR 200 bpm level will be ideal to evaluate horse performance but it might be good to set HBR 150-160 bpm level with younger horses due to inmaturity of body.

By accumulating training data, own database for either individual horse or whole stable.

By accumulating data in Horsecall's treadmill test mode, it is possible to analyze databases and analyzes such as horse-specific reference values and standard values in stables. (Meister version only)
